Dismembered female bodies found in landfill in Kenya

Kenyan police have found three more bags of female body parts in a landfill, the latest revelation in a horror story that has shocked the nation.

Several demonstrators are missing after the violent clashes with the authorities – and now a possible police connection to the murders is being investigated.

The sacks, which were pulled from the water in an abandoned quarry in the slums of the capital Nairobi on Saturday, contained, among other things, severed legs and two torsos, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, DCI.

“We want to assure the public that our investigations will be thorough and encompass multiple theories, including but not limited to cult acts and mass murder,” the DCI announced.

The day before, the police announced that the dismembered bodies of at least six women had been found in Mukuru in southern Nairobi. The authority Ipoa, tasked with reviewing the police, lists nine bodies: seven women and two men.

Angry people try to get to the place
The public is urged to remain calm while the investigation is underway. A group of police investigators and forensics technicians have been prevented by angry people from getting to the crime scene, according to the DCI.

The finds on Friday were made less than 100 meters from a police station. Kenyan police, meanwhile, have been accused of abducting protesters after violent, anti-government protests. Several protesters have been missing since then.

Human rights groups accuse Kenyan police of brutality and multiple human rights violations, and express concern after the discovery of the dismembered bodies.

An investigation into possible police involvement in the crimes is ongoing, reports the review authority Ipoa.
