There are many of us who love coffee, but also many who have noticed that it has become considerably more expensive lately in Sweden.
With the coffee pouring – can dandelions be the rescue?
In June alone, the price of brewed coffee increased by 7.9 percent. Now a package of brewed coffee costs between SEK 5 and 11 more than just a month ago, new figures from the Matpriskollen show.
In addition, climate change risks knocking out large parts of the world’s coffee production in the future.
Various coffee substitutes
In difficult times such as during war, among other things, roasted grain and the chicory plant have been used as a coffee substitute.
The question is what could conceivably be the “coffee” of the future. In Västerås, Johannes Wätterbäck, who runs the cultivation blog Uncle Green (Farbror Grön), has experimented with doing it on dandelion roots.
– I think it’s fantastically good, he says.
