Gang leader shot dead in Linköping – three men arrested

The man was lying with a gunshot wound next to a playground near Berga church when the police arrived. He was taken to hospital, but his life could not be saved. He was a leading figure within the Bergan network and was shot to death.

Three men between the ages of 20 and 25 were arrested on Wednesday night on reasonable suspicion of the murder. All three are already known to the police.

“The investigation is at an early and intensive stage. And now customary investigative measures such as interrogations and technical investigations are carried out”, says senior prosecutor Emma Högström, who leads the preliminary investigation from the prosecutor’s chamber in Linköping,

No later than Friday at 12, the prosecutor must make a decision on whether or not the suspects should be remanded in custody.

Gang leader in Berga

According to the police, it is a man in his 40s who has been shot to death on Tuesday afternoon at 3 pm. Relatives have been notified. The man was a leading figure within the Berga network, which for several years controlled the drug trade in Linköping.

The police were also on site at the hospital to ensure that the staff there could work undisturbed.

A large area was cordoned off

The major police operation was underway with, among other things, drones and dog patrols. There were many people at the scene and the police cordoned off a large area in Berga and Söderleden was also closed after the murder.

“We have received a lot of witness information. The area is populated and it is the middle of the day. Many have seen parts of the incident and have spoken to us, which increases the possibility of solving the crime. There may be people close to the crime victim who may have information that is of interest to us”, says Johnny Gustavsson.

The help of surveillance cameras

“We have many surveillance cameras in Berga and the surrounding area and they help and will help us in this investigation, I am convinced of that”, says Ann-Christine Rehnström, local police area manager in Linköping.

Not connected to the murder in Norrköping

The police are investigating the fatal shooting in Linköping and the murder in Norrköping the night before, as separate events.

“We see no connection at the moment”, says Angelica Israelsson Silfver press spokesperson at the police.
