One injured after shooting in Södertälje – several people arrested

One person has been injured in a shooting in Hovsjö in Södertälje. The shooting is being investigated as attempted murder.

“We can confirm that we have made several detentions in close connection with the incident”

It was during Tuesday afternoon that the police were alerted by people who said they had observed a shooting outside. According to TT, a weapon has been found in a forest thicket.

Deprivations of liberty have been carried out according to Max Åkerwall, but he does not want to go into how many. He also says that there is a worrying situation in Södertälje right now.

“We are currently in a very worrying situation in Södertälje. There are great similarities with when the wave of violence escalated and started in the fall of 2022.”

On Monday, a hand grenade was thrown into a shop open in the evening in the Geneta area, where a woman was seriously injured, and Max Åkerwall says that this is a departure from how it looked before.

“It can never be forgiven to throw a hand grenade, but you usually throw them to scare or mark other times where there is much less risk that another person will be hit.

“This is completely reckless.”

One taken to hospital

SOS Alarm tells SVT that a person has been taken to Karolinska in Solna by ambulance after the shooting. They do not want to state age, gender or the state of the damage, but refer to the police.

Images from the operation show that at least four ambulances are on the scene. According to SVT’s reporter on the spot, large parts of Hovsjö center have been cordoned off.

The spiral of violence in Södertälje

Before this incident, Södertälje has been rocked by two shootings and an explosion in three days. Now the police are investigating connections to the bloody conflict between the criminal groups in Södertälje.

“We are trying to map possible connections both between the events but also the local conflict we have in Södertälje, says local police area manager Caroline Aspegren.”

Unclear about reinforcements

On July 6, the police set up a visitation zone in parts of Södertälje after a man was shot dead in the Blombacka area on July 2. The visitation zone was lifted last Friday.

Max Åkerwall says that it is too early to say whether the recent acts of violence can be linked to the lifting of the visitation zone, but that it is one of the hypotheses they are working on.

In a message to SVT, the chairman of the municipal board Boel Godner (S) writes that they will see if there will be any reinforcements or something else due to the recent events.

“Such balances are made by the administration together with the police,” writes Godner.
