Almost exactly one year ago, Nils Zätterström did his first first-team training with Malmö FF.
Yesterday he became a hero in the Champions League qualifiers with a goal and an assist.
- “It’s pretty crazy when I think about it”, he says to SVT Sport.
Malmö FF looked bad, to say the least, in the return meeting with Greek Paok in the Champions League qualifier. But in the 96th minute Nils Zätterström made it 3-3 and in extra time he assisted the 4-3 goal.
- “It’s a crazy match. That’s the first word I think of”, says Zätterström the next day to SVT Sport.
The 19-year-old says that many people contacted him after the match.
- “Many have written and congratulated and shown their support”.
Development has gone at a furious pace for Zätterström, who in March signed a five-year contract with Malmö FF.
- “On Monday it was exactly one year since I did my first first-team training. It’s pretty crazy when I think about it. I absolutely could not have predicted that, that I would play in the Champions League qualifiers, if someone had asked me at the beginning of the year”.
Do you have time to enjoy the successes?
- “Yes, you have to do that. It is important to allow yourself to take in the feelings you get. This is what you’ve dreamed about growing up, so you can stop and enjoy it before you move on”.
In the playoff round, Malmö will face Czech Sparta Prague.
