Swedish man arrested with hand grenades in Copenhagen

A 25-year-old Swedish man has been detained after he was caught with two hand grenades in Copenhagen on Tuesday.

The police suspect that the man has been recruited to commit crimes in Denmark, Danish TV2 reports.

Danish police arrested the man in the Tingbjerg area of ​​Copenhagen on Tuesday evening. The Copenhagen police confirmed on Wednesday that they had found two hand grenades on the Swedish citizen who was arrested.

Swedish police suspect that the man has been recruited to commit crimes in Denmark and is previously known to Swedish police, according to TV2.

After a custody hearing behind closed doors, the judge decided to remand the man for four weeks. The man has admitted possession of the grenades but denies that he intended to use them in Copenhagen.

Suspect of two criminal classifications

  • “There is reasonable suspicion that he is guilty of the two charges that we have brought”, says prosecutor Astrid Helmsø and continues:
  • “One is that he has had the two hand grenades in a public place, but also that he has tried to detonate the hand grenades in the Copenhagen area”.

In addition to the 25-year-old, a 21-year-old Swedish man was also arrested in Sweden on Tuesday at the request of Danish police, according to TV2.

Last week, a 24-year-old Swedish woman and a 24-year-old Swedish man were arrested. They were then detained on suspicion of attempted murder, after throwing a hand grenade into a kiosk in Österbro in Copenhagen.
